"Samovar" bakery in Santa Eulalia
The
"Samovar"
bakery in
Santa Eulalia
will be serving
up a wide
range of Easter
delights this
month. As well
as the freshbaked
products
that have
made their
name, such as
pretzels, wholewheat
breads
and all sorts of
delicious cakes, customers can also find a selection of delicacies
that are otherwise almost impossible to find here on the
island, like bottled cherries, apple sauce, French toast and
muesli, to name just a few.
In April, customers will also be delighted
to hear that the bakery will be stocking a range of cute Easter
bunnies made of chocolate or yeast dough, charming little
Easter lambs, fresh Easter bread and brightly coloured eggs.
And let's not forget the fresh sandwiches on sale daily. The
"Samovar" bakery is located close to the offices of IbizaNOW in
the UNIDAD building on C/. Pintores Puget.
"El Comodin" in "Can Furnet"
This Easter the manager
of "El Comodin" will be
serving his guests a range of
special Easter dishes. The
title on the extra menu tells
you that this Easter lamb is
going to be the star of the
show. It lists delicacies like
"Creole style noisette of
lamb", "Spring lamb with a
herb crust", "Lamb fillet stroganoff", "Leg of lamb with couscous"
and "Indian style lamb curry". And of course, "El Comodin"
will have the perfect red wine to complement the
lamb.
The restaurant in located in the "Can Furnet" residential
complex. Just drive past the gate, that the guard will be
happy to open for restaurant patrons, and continue for 200
metres until you reach the tennis courts.
"Madrigal" in the Botafoch marina
Fans of the "Madrigal" are going to be happy to hear that
the stylish restaurant with its great food and drinks is going
to reopen from 6th April. Manager Marc Lindemann and his
crew will be on hand to serve guests every lunchtime and evening.
As usual there will be a gourmet quality lunch menu offering
a choice of three starters, three main courses and three desserts
- even vegetarians and calorie counters will find that they've
been catered for.
One thing has changed, though: whereas the
menu cost 18,50 euros last year, the price has been slashed to
just 16,50 euros -
without compromising
the quality
of the fresh ingredients
used. "By cutting
the price, I
wanted to make a
statement at a time
when so many
people are talking
about the economic
crisis!" says
Marc.
There is also an
evening special
alongside the standard à la carte menu and it's sensationally
good, too: just 69 euros for two, which includes an aperitif, a four
course surprise menu, a glass of good white wine to go with the
fish course, a glass of fine red to accompany the meat course,
and even a coffee once the meal is over.
Of course, guests who aren't hungry enough to go for the
menu can also order a snack or just a glass or wine instead. "We
want Madrigal to be the harbour location where people want to
meet, eat and enjoy themselves," says Marc Lindemann. The restaurant
is located in the Botafoch marina right on the waterfront,
and offers an amazing view of the yachts and the old town. It is
only closed on Sundays.
"Sapori Divini" on the road to Es Canar
Lovers of Italian cuisine
will have a field day
- because on 2nd April,
Andrea and Paolo will be
reopening their restaurant
just in time for Easter, and
taking a look back at
three successful years in
the business. The secret
behind the food is a
simple one: take the finest Italian recipes available, always use
fresh produce and add an exceptional wine list containing a
range of superb Italian vintages, plus a range of home-made
cocktails, and voilà.
In the summer months, you can sit out on the
terrace shaded by palm trees, while in winter, you can make
yourself comfortable by the open fire. Andrea and Paolo have
introduced a new special offer to thank their regular clientele: if
you reserve by phone or online at
www.saporidivini.es, they will
pour you a glass of cava on the house so you can wish them all
the best for the coming season. Over Easter (Friday, Saturday
and Sunday), the restaurant will also be open for lunch. Otherwise,
it will be open every evening (except for Tuesday).

"Vis a Vis", S'Argamassa
"Vis a Vis" will be opening for
the summer on 1st April and
this Easter the owner and head
chef, Roland, will once again be
cooking up his famous lamb
specialities - in addition to the
dishes on the standard menu, of
course. As always, all of the produce
used is sourced straight from the market. "Vis a Vis" is open
daily (except Mondays) from 6.30 p.m. and Steffi and Roland will
also be open for lunch on Sundays all through April. The restaurant
is located on the Avenida S'Argamassa (between Santa Eulalia
and Es Canar).
"Jimmy's Coco Beach", Platja d'en Bossa
The seats are going to
be snapped up in a
flash - as always when
"Jimmy's Coco Beach" is
having a party. This time it will
be their grand reopening on
Saturday, 4th April, from
1p.m. Jimmy's crew will be
serving a three course menu
at a very reasonable price
that includes drinks. Jimmy will be flying in the soul singer, Larissa,
as a special guest to woo the crowds with her amazing voice. If
you don't manage to secure a seat before they're all gone, don't
despair: you might have more luck on 19th April. This is the date
when Jimmy's will be hosting IbizaNOW's legendary gourmet
event.
Call the IbizaNOW offices now on 971 319 262 to reserve a
seat. Available places for our gourmet evenings tend to go like hot
cakes, especially when the event's being held at Jimmy's.
"La Casita" on the road to Cala Llonga
This Easter Johannes - the manager of "La Casita" - and his
crew will be dishing up seafood specialities and traditional
Easter delicacies. On Good Friday there will be a large selection
of fish on the menu (as well as a number of dishes without fish).
On Easter Saturday and Sunday, "La Casita" will be offering a
special three or five course gourmet menu that guests can put together
themselves - including Easter lamb and a dessert. There
are some new items on the menu - lobster, crayfish and shellfish
fresh from the sea aquarium. The restaurant has kept its famous
three course taster menu, consisting of a wide range of starters,
main courses and desserts to choose from. Over Easter "La Casita"
will be serving food all day from midday to midnight.
Murphy's
Murphy's Bar in Es Canar is to reopen again after an
absence of some three years from the summer social
scene of this east coast tourist resort. It was always renowned
for a buzzing terrace scene every evening up
to midnight, before the assembled throng went down to
the basement concert hall for live music and frivolity
until sunrise. Unusual and memorable experiences
were burnt into the memories of all who attended and
fell off the tables dancing to a soundtrack of Irish jigs
and folk songs.
The venue is now under new
management but the new
team, Darren, Joe and Steve,
intend to revive the original
spirit. However, they won't be
pretending to be Irish as identical
twins Joe and Steve are a
well known duo who have
been playing around the island for over twenty years. They
cover all of the musical bases from the 50s and 60s right up
to The Arctic Monkeys, so the music will be varied to say the
least...
Darren is an experienced bar owner, having run Rehab
and Studio 22 in San Antonio's West End, but he's also a
devotee of live music, which he's been offering as an alternative
to the repetitive beats of dance music that dominate
the West End these days.
San Antonio's loss looks set to become Es Canar's gain, as an
alternative to the cabaret acts and karaoke on offer at the local
hotels throughout the summer. It should prove to be a good late
night option for the local workers too when they finish at the local
bars and restaurants, as it's licensed till 6 am and they're entitled
to discounted prices at the bar. If you qualify and you're not offered
one when they do the rounds giving out the discount
cards, pop in, tell them where you work and you'll be welcomed
throughout the season.
Other things you ought to know include the fact that Murphy's
has a proper temperature controlled beer cellar ensuring that
the Guinness will be served in tip-top condition, as will the rest of
their range of cask and bottled beer. To keep the girls happy
they'll be offering jugs of cocktails at prices put together with the
'crisis' in mind and serving some interesting bar snacks, as Joe
and Steve are also accomplished Indian chefs.
At our meeting it was mooted that free tapas might be offered
at closing time before those with an attitude towards drinking hit
the fresh air outside as they wend their way home.
The venue will open on April 15th to coincide with the annual
opening of the Punta Arabi Hippy Market, which is logical
as they're situated in the heart of the ever expanding
Market car park. What may prove to be more of a surprise will
be the live acoustic sets on the terrace in a Flower Power
theme, to add to the market ambience. These and the live
televised sport on offer might just prove to be enough to
keep Dad occupied while the missus and kids go and shop
till they drop over the road.
On Hippy Market day they'll be open from 8 am, the rest of the
time from 6 pm
Queen Victoria
The Queen Victoria public house in Santa
Eulalia opens its doors again on April 4th
under new ownership. Neil, Kerry and little
Megan, the previous incumbents, have returned
to the UK to be replaced by a partnership
of partnerships - Natalie & Stuart and
Julie & Chris.
The four of them have already created a
buzz of expectation in the town following
their transformation of the Stables bar (Los
Corrales) into the busiest expat
bar in the pueblo, in just
the four short, but difficult,
months of the winter.
Their simple, but effective,
formula includes an unusually
friendly welcome, attentive
service and large portions
of excellent food, so a
return to the heyday of the
Queen Victoria of old looks to
be a reasonable possibility, if
not a certainty.
Connoisseurs of the establishment
may recall the heady
days when the Vic was the
only pub in town worthy of the
title. Those were the days when the pretty
young tour operators used to hold their regular
'welcome' meetings here, other nostalgic and
unforgettable nights spring to mind: like the
night Manchester United beat Bayern Munich
in injury time of the 1999 European Champions
League cup final. They were losing 1-0 after 90
minutes, but we missed the winning goal because
we were all in a heap on the floor in
chaotic celebration of the equalizer seconds
earlier. Happy days indeed...
Back to today though, the bar has been
completely redecorated and slightly rearranged
to make better use of the available
space. For the time being the
newly recovered pool table
has found a good spot inside,
which is hardly surprising
as all four of the partners
are accomplished players.
During the summer it will
move outside into the town
centre oasis of a walled
garden behind the pub.
However, it will return indoors
next winter to turn the venue
into the sort of hive of activity
that the stables became this
winter...
Opening hours: 4 pm till late.
