The Taste Criolla restaurant, at the end of the road into the village of Cala Llonga, was taken over by Dutch Edward (& Eduard) last November and has been given a facelift that looks set to continue throughout the year.
The restaurant is on your left at the T-junction that takes you either right to the beach of Sol d'en Serra, or left to Cala Llonga beach fifty metres in front of you.
It has a raised terrace that wraps around the corner with a view of the steep wooded hillside so typical of this fjord-like cove. Throughout the summer this will feature an outside BQ and a DJ playing a mix of subtle sound from jazz to rock. Live performances can be expected too.
They also have free wifi internet access, making them unique in Cala Llonga...

The inside is tastefully laid out with just four big wooden tables capable of comfortably accommodating eight each, a big corner couch area in which to relax before or after your meal and a lovely open fireplace.
All in all it's a cosy place to visit in the winter offering reasonable prices and a daily special for only 10 euros. One of the very few restaurants in Cala Lllonga to remain open throughout the winter, they swiftly built up a regular clientele of locals who've heard about the rather special food on a menu that changes every week.
They call it "dinner with a difference" and that is certainly the case with the menu. The cuisine is certainly international with Japanese, Indian and Thai influences apparent in many of the very varied dishes on the menu, however, you'll find steaks, oven roasted duck and marinated lamb in there too, alongside other vegetarian options.
Sunday is 'Wappaz' day - these are 'world tapas' including ideas from many different styles of cuisine. The second difference is the price of this quality cuisine, which can only be described as very reasonable.

However, Edward and Eduard aren't sitting back waiting for word of mouth to fill their restaurant. They've also launched their catering business this Spring, offering outside catering in any style of cuisine.
Edward was a freelance chef for a big Dutch catering company before he was drawn to Ibiza, which explains his diverse culinary experience. What is less immediately obvious is his ability to throw a party - some of his recollections of serving food using naked ladies as plates can only be described as mind boggling...
Immediate plans here include a White party, starting with cocktails on the beach, to celebrate the clocks going forward. On April 30th they have another party to celebrate 'Queens Day' in Holland. The queen is no more, but the Dutch insist upon carrying on with the party - well they would wouldn't they?
A similar event will celebrate the end of the season, when the clocks go back again - when black will be the dress code for the day. In between you can expect all manner of other unusual outside catering experiences, to give you some idea of what these guys can bring to your party.

Future events include a banquet on top of a mountain in San Juan and, as a contrast, dinner in the illuminated Can Marca cave in San Miguel. Both of these include a horse riding element, courtesy of the Can Mayol stables, which is also Dutch run.
Other events being planned include a fishing expedition followed by a BBQ on the beach to cook the catch, and barbecues at the public space provided for that purpose in the woods adjacent to the San Lorenzo church.
Meanwhile back at the restaurant expect a buzzing terrace meeting point with the beach just a stone's throw away.
Open every day from May 1st from noon till late at night.
They also have apartments available to rent in the block above the restaurant, so you and your friends can enjoy your holiday in the centre of Cala Llonga and be at the heart of the action...
