Rossini's "Il Signor Bruschino" will be the third opera to be brought to Ibiza by Armin Heinemann. Performances will take place on 28th, 30th and 31st May at the "Can Ventosa" Ibiza cultural centre. Tickets will go on sale at "Paula's" from 4th May.
Armin Heinemann is what you might describe as an allrounder: in his time he has studied architecture, worked as a musician, fashion designer (at Paula's), stage designer - and opera director. Two years ago it was Armin Heinemann who gave Ibiza its very first opera with "La Traviata". Last year he repeated the experience with a second opera, "Rigoletto".
Now these two rather melancholy Verdi operas are to be followed by a much lighter opera in the style of the "commedia dell' arte": "Il Signor Bruschino", by Gioacchino Rossini (1792-1868). The opera was first performed in front of an ecstatic crowd in Venice back in 1813. The production has been organised by "Paula's Ibiza" and is headed by A. Heinemann and S. Rudnik.

The story itself is turbulent, original and genuinely funny. The young Florville wants to marry the beautiful Sofia. To impress his potential in-laws, he pretends to be the son of the wealthy Signor Bruschino - and the whole story hangs on the question: will he get away with it or not? When Rossini - who wrote the opera at the tender age of 22 - was 66 years old he added a note to the last page of the score that he had written back in his youth: "I confess that I am happy to have written this youthful folly!"
As musical director for this delightful opera Armin Heidemann has managed to recruit Ricardo Estrada, with whom he has already staged the opera on the Spanish mainland. If you're familiar with Spain's opera houses you will be well acquainted with the singers too. So everything is in place to guarantee a wonderful evening's entertainment with great scenery and costumes designed and created especially for the occasion by Armin Heinemann and the fashion designers at "Paula's".
Performances will be held at "Can Ventosa" at 9 p.m. on 28th, 30th and 31st May. Tickets are priced at 25, 35 and 45 euro and will be on sale at Paula's offices from 4th to 22nd May ("Edificio Bristol", Entrance 4, 2 to 2a. Tel. 971 31 61 91, from midday to 2 p.m.) and from 25th May at "Can Ventosa". The photographs shown here were taken by Antonio Bofill - Spain's leading performing arts photographer - when the opera was first staged on the Spanish mainland. For the past 40 years, Bofill has been the resident photographer at the Gran Teatro del Liceo in Barcelona.
